Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning clash where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball announced this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest drew over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
